Phoenix Garden Events
Back to Nature
Free weekly sessions for those aged over 55 years, Tuesday 12:30-14:30
These sessions are indoors most of the time.
25 March
Fermentation workshop #3. Bring two jam jars to take home sauerkraut and Kimchi. Both recipes use salt to ferment cabbage and other vegetables giving them a lemony taste. Leave in the jars for a couple of weeks to bring out the flavour. We’ll also look at how to make Kombucha tea, a fermented, lightly effervescent, sweetened black tea drink.

1 April – 14:00-16:00 (please note the later start for this session)
Trip to Two Temple Place – A guided tour. We’re going back to Two Temple Place but this time for a guided tour. During this visit, we’ll be escorted round the building to find out about its exotic past owners including the Astor family. Our guide will explain the architecture and the origin of some of its grand art work.
Meet at 13:45 at Two Temple Place, London WC2R 3BD. Nearest tube is Temple (Circle and District lines), 5 minute walk. The tour starts at 14:00

8 April
A collaboration with Sociology students from St Georges, University of London.
Picture frames. We will craft our own unique picture frames from scratch, starting with cutting and assembling timber pieces that we’ll attach a back piece to complete the structure. The creative part follows when you decorate the frames with dried leaves and flowers, adding a natural, artistic touch. To finish, a coat of varnish will be applied, preserving the beauty of the handmade frames.
15 April
Seed bombs. We’ll create our own wild flower seed bombs by incorporating a range of seeds, including some we’ve collected in the garden, with clay and compost. You can simply throw these into an unloved public space where you live and wait for the rain or bury them under the surface and water.
22 April
Earth Day 2025. To mark Earth Day 2025, we’ll be creating a collaborative display in the garden that highlights how long everyday items take to break down once discarded. We’ll select a range of common items—made from plastic, glass, cardboard, and even organic materials—and mount them on framed boards throughout the garden. Alongside each item, we’ll include researched information about how long it takes to decompose.
This project will be a powerful eye-opener for us and for everyone who visits the garden.
29 April
Trip to the Wallace Collection. We’re heading out to the Wallace Collection (Manchester Square, W1U 3BN) for a guided tour of Women at the Wallace—a fascinating look at the often-overlooked contributions and stories of women in the collection.
You’re welcome to meet us directly at the venue, or join us at the Phoenix Garden at 12:30pm, where we’ll gather before making our way together by bus up Oxford Street.
